Education

It is our view that investing in educational excellence is key to achieving both social justice and long-term economic growth for our shared society.

It is essential that the debate around the future of education is extended beyond the current Sinn Fein/DUP stalemate that is so damaging our children's future.

The SDLP is working towards a system focused not just on exams but on a rounded education for our children and an end to academic selection.

The SDLP is focused on better provision for nursery and primary school children, the stage at which vulnerable children start falling behind.

The SDLP wants pupils and parents to have guaranteed access to their choice of integrated, faith based and Irish-medium education.

The SDLP believes local communities should be enabled to provide the best local education solutions.

We are committed to addressing the legacy of disadvantage in Further Education. In order to boost our economy, additional places at colleges and universities need to be created to circumvent the "brain drain".
