Regional Development

The SDLP is committed to delivering balanced and sustainable regional development across the North.

We believe high quality services for the people of Northern Ireland can be best provided through greater North-South working across the board, from job creation and business, to heath and education. Read "North South Makes Sense."

Good public services and job creation can only be successful if we invest in roads, rail, public transport, energy and communications networks.

Key priorities include urgent action to upgrade the water system, investment in high quality public transport and roads improvement, further development of the all-island energy market including extension of natural gas across the North and throughout the island, and a decentralisation policy to bring government jobs to all parts of the region. Read our development ideas in "New Priorities in Difficult Times"

The SDLP has been consistent in its opposition to new water charges as we already pay for water through our rates and we should not be forced to pay twice.
