RAMSEY: City Centre requires more parking for taxi drivers

SDLP Foyle MLA has written to the Department of the Environment and DRD to request an assessment of taxi driver parking spaces in Derry, after receiving a number of calls from concerned drivers.

Mr Ramsey said:

“I have been inundated with calls recently, especially in the run up to the busy Christmas shopping period, by taxi drivers who have expressed their concern that the City Centre is becoming more and more difficult to park in while waiting for a fare, for both independent drivers and those listed in a firms operator’s licence.

"We should be doing all we can to ensure that there is accessibility for taxi drivers in the City Centre to their customers, and that in times when a driver is waiting on a fare ,he or she can park at a designated place throughout the City.  I had previously raised this with Ministers and will do so again.”
