Carr: Bogside attack ‘madness’

SDLP Derry city Councillor Sean Carr has condemned those behind a gun attack in the Bogside last night, and said people in the area are “very angry” at what happened.

Speaking after the incident in Lisfannon Park where a man in his forties was shot four times – in the legs and arm in what has been described as a paramilitary attack - Cllr Carr said those responsible do not represent the Bogside community.

Cllr Carr said: “From what I understand a number of masked men entered the house and shot the man when he was lying on the sofa. I understand there were other people in the house at the time.

“Last night, people I spoke to in the area were very angry at what had happened on their doorstep. They say those who carried out this attack are not acting in their name, nor do they represent the Bogside or Derry.

“The message from the people of the Bogside to the gunmen is ‘get off our backs’. Whatever perceived accusations there may be against the victim of this horrific shooting, this type of madness cannot be justified, and I urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI immediately.”
