Dallat: Christmas message delivered in native language to Polish community

St Anne’s Church Kilrea was abuzz last Thursday evening when the Polish community assembled to hear Mass in their native tongue. Father Lukasz Nizio, who is on secondment to the Diocese of Derry was the chief celebrant in a service which was entirely in Polish.

Local SDLP Assembly Member John Dallat who was in the congregation said:

“This was a very special occasion where the true meaning of Christmas radiated throughout the church. The Polish parishioners interacted with Father Lukasz throughout the entire service.  I felt privileged to be present and it brought home to me just how important the Polish community has become in our local community.  They have made a significant contribution in our schools and in our places of work.

“It was also a timely opportunity to think about our own Irish community that is spending Christmas in other countries and to keep them in our prayers and to communicate with them.

“I am really grateful to our Parish Priest, Fr John Cargan, who organised this event and also to the local Saint Vincent de Paul Society who invited those present to join them in the SVP centre afterwards for food and drinks.”
