McDonnell: Graffiti attack on Belfast church a ‘thuggish act’

SDLP South Belfast MP Dr Alasdair McDonnell has condemned an overnight incident where sectarian graffiti was painted on the doors of St Anthony’s Church on Willowfield Parade.

Dr McDonnell said: “This is an unwarranted and thuggish act of vandalism. To attack a place of worship in such as way is contemptible, and something that cannot be tolerated.

“The vast majority of people in South Belfast will be shocked by this act. I hope that the damage can be repaired promptly to show these cowardly bullies the futility of their actions.

“I would call upon anyone with any information to contact the PSNI on 101 so that those responsible can be held to account.”
