Bradley: Scrap the 1% cap on public sector pay
Ms Bradley said:
“The impact of the 1% pay cap is stark - particularly with rising inflation, this amounts to a pay cut in real terms. This is completely unacceptable.
“The SDLP are four-square behind our public sector workers in their calls to scrap the 1% limit on public sector pay.
“The parties who voted against the proposal to end the pay cap, and those who failed their constituents by not turning up to vote, endorsed the Tory austerity agenda.
“In the absence of a functioning Assembly, the SDLP will press for the 1% pay cap to be scrapped. When the institutions are functioning, we will always vote for fair and well deserved pay rises for our public sector workers.
“Over the coming days and weeks the SDLP will be backing our public sector workers by continuing to campaign across the North to scrap the cap. We urge all other political parties to join us to deliver real equality, that includes economic equality for all of our workers here.”
