Hanna: Political failure hands London Government blank cheque on Brexit
“The failure to establish an Executive here as the London Government makes a pig’s ear out of the Brexit negotiations is unforgivable.
“While the Scots and the Welsh are withholding consent on the Conservative Repeal Bill, we’re basically giving the London Government a blank cheque to say and do what they want, regardless of how badly it affects people here. And we should be under no illusion, whichever Brexit they come up with – it’ll be bad for us.
“For all of the DUP’s tub thumping about their big deal with the Tories, we’ve yet to hear any serious answers on the most significant political and constitutional change of a generation. And despite claims of a ‘diplomatic offensive’ from Sinn Féin, the net result of which was an embarrassing defeat in the European Parliament, there’s no evidence their lobbyist MPs have made any difference.
“The way to make an impact on the Brexit negotiations, to fight a hard border and to defend the people of interests here is to use the authority of the power sharing institutions to make a firm case, respond to emerging decisions, debate and agree solutions. It’s critical that we have a return to inclusive government soon.”
