Hanna to speak at premiere of Hume documentary
Claire Hanna, who was born in Galway, said:
"This promises to be one of the most important documentaries ever screened about the Irish political process. Over a quarter of a century, and aided by individuals from the ‘golden generation’ of Irish public servants, John Hume not only brought employment to the North but transformed traditional, and sometimes simplistic attitudes among Irish America to the complexities of the North.
"To my mind every worthwhile creative idea about the complex relationships on this island - reconciliation within the North, North/South, Ireland/Britain and the European dimension-came as a result of John Hume’s intellect, imagination and humanity. As one of a younger generation of SDLP politicians determined to continue Hume's work of addressing division, it's a real privilege to be asked to speak at this event."
