Heading urges council to contact EU trade commissioner over Bombardier jobs

SDLP West Belfast Councillor Brian Heading has urged Belfast City Council to write to the European Trade Commissioner about the ongoing dispute between Bombardier and Boeing in the United States. Cllr Heading said that the Council must do all it can to safeguard local jobs.

He said:

“The Bombardier dispute with Boeing over support for the C-series jet has introduced considerable instability that is threatening job security and economic investment in communities across Northern Ireland.

“The isolationist agenda which is driving US economic policy is biting hard on ordinary workers in Belfast and across the North.

“It’s imperative that, in the absence of functioning institutions, the Council does all we can to safeguard jobs and investment in this city. That’s why I’m proposing writing directly to the European Trade Commissioner about the ongoing dispute and urging their direct involvement.”
