Mallon: Supports Fight against Pancreatic Cancer

Today the SDLP Deputy Leader Nichola Mallon MLA volunteered with Pancreatic Cancer UK in Victoria Square. Helping with gift wrapping for shoppers, the North Belfast MLA said the people of Belfast are so "charitable" and "generous."

She said:

"Hundreds of people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every year in Northern Ireland. The disease has the lowest survival rate of all the 20 common cancers, despite this it receives just 1.9 per cent of the UK cancer research budget; a reality charities such as Pancreatic Cancer UK are trying to improve.

"I was delighted to volunteer alongside others today in Belfast City Centre to raise awareness and funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

"The true spirit of Christmas was on display as the people of Belfast lined up to donate and support this worthy cause. The people in our great city are so charitable and generous."

Andrea Kearns, Northern Ireland Community Coordinator at Pancreatic Cancer UK said:

“We are delighted Nichola Mallon MLA is supporting us to create awareness and raise vital funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK this Christmas. We can’t thank her enough for her ongoing commitment to the cause.

More than 200 people in Northern Ireland are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on average every year, it’s important we do everything we can to provide support for everyone affected by pancreatic cancer. The money we raise through gift wrapping will help Pancreatic Cancer UK fund crucial support services to local people.”
