Mallon: Poverty rate an indictment of political failure

SDLP Deputy Leader Nichola Mallon has said that figures released by the Department for Communities highlighting the percentages of groups living in poverty in Northern Ireland is a damning indictment of political failure. Durkan: Delayed discharge deaths avoidable

SDLP Health Spokesperson Mark H Durkan has said that figures showing that over 200 patients died in Northern Ireland whilst waiting on being discharged from hospital is extremely worrying. The added stress caused to patients and their families is not only unfair, it is frustrating given the situation is “entirely avoidable.”

SDLP Leader backs Whitters’ family calls for access to killing files

SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood MLA has backed calls from the family of Paul Whitters for access to files relating to his death which have been sealed until 2059. Paul, a 15-year-old boy from Derry, was killed after being struck on the head by a plastic bullet fired by an RUC officer in 1981.
