Eastwood challenges Theresa May to Face Down Brexit Extremists

SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood has challenged the British Prime Minister Theresa May to finally face down the minority of Brexit extremists in her own cabinet and on the Tory backbenches. Mr Eastwood said the choice in the coming weeks boiled down to being held ransom by Boris Johnson and Liam Fox or finally getting rid of them.

SDLP calls for fairer treatment of terminally ill people claiming PIP

SDLP Deputy Leader Nichola Mallon has called on the Department for Communities to follow Scotland and change the definition of terminal illness used in the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) process to make it fairer for terminally ill people living here. On Friday the Scottish Government announced that it will use a fairer definition of Terminal illness in their social security system, removing the 6 month life expectancy diagnosis and replacing it with a clinical diagnosis of terminal illness with no restricted time limit.

Mallon: Calls for an Immediate Investigation on continuing SIF Scandal

The SDLP’s Social Justice Spokesperson Nichola Mallon has said confirmation that the DUP/Sinn Fein Social Investment Fund has not been able to spend almost half of the money allocated to it 7 years after its announcement, is further proof if needed, of the incompetence of the DUP and Sinn Fein. The SDLP’s Deputy Leader said the party has contacted the Northern Ireland Audit Office to highlight concerns.
