McKillop: Glens have been frozen out

While awarding praise to DfI Roads for keeping main roads open, Causeway Coast ad Glens Councillor Margaret Anne McKillop has been less complimentary when it comes to accessibility for the provision of salt and grit for rural communities.

She said:

“Understandably the main roads must have priority but better preparation could have been made for the supply of grit at hills and bends where it is absolutely essential.

“In any emergency, communication is essential but despite umpteen calls on Sunday, I was unable to speak to someone who might have arranged the supply of grit to keep our rural community moving.

“It may seem simple to ask rural people to stay off the roads but farms need to get milk off the premises and receive supplies of animal foods. Children need to go to school and our shops need fresh stock.”
