Tierney: Calls for action over bin collection delays

Due to icy conditions the bin collection in the Derry area was disrupted and as a result residents across the city are facing significant delays. SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney has written to the Chief Executive of the Derry and Strabane District Council to ask him to explore "all possible options" to alleviate the delays facing residents.

Cllr Tierney said:

"While I appreciate and understand that the conditions were too hazardous for the bin collection to take place earlier this week, some of the delays as a result are significant and need addressed.

"I have written to the Chief Executive of the Derry and Strabane District Council to ask him to explore all possible options to bring forward the delayed bin collections.

"Residents who have contacted me are concerned that they will have food wastage up-to four weeks now at home and will have overflowing bins if they are not collected as soon as possible.

"I understand the constraints and difficulties of having to rearrange collections city wide, however, I believe it reasonable for other options to be explored so that residents can have waste removed from their homes over the next week."
