Reilly welcomes progress on crematorium plans

Lyons: Stormont impasse allows HMO problems to run unchecked

It has been revealed today that due to the impasse at Stormont a law passed by the Assembly in 2016 to tackle issues seen in the Holylands on St Patrick’s Day cannot be enacted. Reacting to the news that powers within the Houses in Multiple Occupation Act have yet to be put in place Cllr Lyons said “The fastest car on the road is a rented car and the most problematic house on the street is a rented HMO. When you have streets which are 90% plus HMOs, of course huge problems are going to arise.”

Derry SDLP Councillor John Boyle has welcomed a commitment by Scottish airline Loganair to operate the route between City of Derry Airport and Glasgow from Autumn this year.

Tierney urges vigilance following oil theft

SDLP Derry Councillor Brian Tierney has urged local people to be vigilant following oil theft in the Glencaw/Cashelhill Park area this morning. Cllr Tierney advised anyone without a lock on their oil tank to contact him in Colum Eastwood MLA’s office where he can organise assistance.

Heading: No one should be forced to choose between food or fuel

SDLP West Belfast Councillor Brian Heading has said that local people are being left in the cold as cuts are planned to the Affordable Warmth Scheme in the absence of an Executive. The Scheme is an initiative to combat fuel poverty by providing grants for home insulation, boiler upgrades and other energy efficiency measures.
