Constituency Caseworker - Cara Hunter MLA

Reports to: Head of Policy, Research and Communications

Hours: 30 hours per week (4 days)

Salary: Grade 1 (£28,019 - pro rata)

Duration: 6 May 2027 (Date of next Northern Ireland Assembly election)

JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide constituency services for Cara Hunter MLA. 

Main duties to include:

  • Providing information/advice to constituents on a range of issues including, housing, welfare and health, including local council queries.
  • Dealing with complex queries and complaints on Member’s behalf, including drafting letters for Member to sign.
  • Leading on constituency engagement to include identifying local community groups/key contacts, attending meetings, events and clinics.
  • Updating/maintaining IT databases.
  • Managing and progressing portfolio of casework appropriately.
  • Ensuring queries are dealt with sensitively and confidentially.
  • Gathering relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
  • Ensuring efficient data and file management to comply with GDPR and data management.
  • Attending work related training and networking meetings to develop skills.
  • Other duties as required in support of the Member carrying out their Assembly duties.
  • Keeping office in a tidy manner.
  • Provide additional support with social media, providing updates on constituency work.
  • Job may include some house visits for constituents who require it.

Essential Criteria:

  • Applicants must have 2 years minimum experience dealing directly with members of the public.
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills and the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Awareness of local issues within the constituency and ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of GDPR.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience within a political environment would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of how a constituency office operates and of Stormont business and processes.
  • Experience of providing advice in relation to housing and benefits.
  • Previous experience dealing with government agencies and voluntary sector.
