Upper Bann candidate

 

Dolores Kelly is the SDLP's Assembly candidate for Upper Bann.

Dolores has represented the constituency of Upper Bann between 2003-2016 and was then re–elected in 2017. Dolores is currently the SDLP Spokesperson on Policing and a member of the Policing Board, ensuring fair, balanced and impartial policing structures. Dolores has served as Chair of the Assembly's Audit Committee, a member of the Business Committee and an Assembly Commissioner. She is also SDLP Assembly Chief Whip.

A past pupil of St Michael’s Grammar School and a University of Ulster graduate, Dolores worked as a health care professional in the Craigavon Area Hospital and in social services in Banbridge. She is married to Eamon and has four children.

At a local level Dolores served her constituency of Loughside on the Craigavon District Council from 1993 until 2010 and was elected as Mayor of Craigavon in 1999-2000, holding the distinction as the first nationalist candidate to hold the post.

Her main policy work included sustainable rural development and accountable local policing. She also sits on the boards of the DEL committee and Loughshore Care Partnership. Her community policing experience included serving as Chairperson of the Local Strategic Partnership in Craigavon and as a member of the Policing Board she has chaired the Committee to appoint the new Chief Constable of the PSNI on numerous occasions. She is SDLP Spokesperson for the Victims and Legacy Counsel and works on other numerous community projects.

In April 2010, she became Chair of the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Employment and Learning Committee having formerly chaired the Environment Committee. Following the Assembly elections of May 2011, Dolores was appointed vice-chair of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee.
