West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan has welcomed the passage of the SDLP's Opposition Day motion on the A5 Western Transport Corridor.
He said the Assembly has sent a clear message to the Executive and the Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins MLA: construction must begin before the end of this mandate.
Daniel McCrossan MLA said:
"This is an important step forward. The Assembly has backed the SDLP's demand that work on the A5 must finally begin in this mandate. That sends a clear and united message to the Executive, the excuses have run out, it's time to deliver.
"The A5 is not just another road scheme. It is a matter of life and death for families across the North West. Too many lives have been lost, too many families have been left to cope with unimaginable grief. That cannot continue.
“There can be no repeat of the mistakes from the previous Minister and his department that saw this project stalled yet again in the courts. When the appeal is heard in December we need to see progress – every delay puts more people at risk.
"The people of the West deserve safe, modern infrastructure. They deserve action, not more delay. The SDLP will continue to stand with bereaved families, local campaigners and communities until this project is delivered. The Executive must now act, and act quickly."
