Cllr Brian Tierney



Brian Tierney was co-opted on to Derry City Council in January 2014, Brian was elected to represent the Ballyarnett area on Derry and Strabane District Council a few months later and re-elected in 2019.

Brian is the current Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council  

Brian is chair of the local council's Environment and Regeneration Committee and holds a seat on the Health and Communities committee.

Brian has also been a member of the Derry and Strabane PCSP since 2014 and has Chaired the Council led Bonfire working group for several years.

Brian is passionate about public service and works in the local community on a full-time basis. He is heavily involved in several local organisations. He currently sits on the Outer North Neighbourhood Renewal Board, the Outer North Community Safety Team, the On Streets Community initiative, Galliagh Residents Group and Carnhill Resource Centre Management Committee. He is also the SDLP's representative on the Bloody Sunday Trust.

Brian is the SDLP Spokesperson on University Expansion.

Brian is married to Cheryl and they have four children Cian, Shane, Mary-Kate and Ben.

Brian is a keen Derry City fan and enjoys getting to cheer on his hometown club on a Friday night at the Brandywell and has an interest in boxing.
