Ards Peninsula

 

 

Elected to Ards Borough Council in 2005 and subsequently to Ards and North Down Borough Council Under the Review of Public Administration (RPA) in 2014,representing the Ards Peninsula DEA.
 
Joe has been the sole nationalist Councillor elected to both these respective Councils for the past 15 years having previously topped the poll within the Ards Peninsula. He has served as Chairperson of Co-Ordinating, Planning & Environment Committees as well as having had positions on the Audit, Economic Development and Community & Well-being Committees

Joe also represents the Council as a delegate to the East Border Region National Association of Councillors (NI Region - Secretary) Northern Ireland Local Government Partnership (On Travellers Issues, NILGPTI  - Chairperson) and Chairperson of the Ards and North Down Rural Partnership. He is currently the SDLP Spokesperson for Rural Transport.

Particular interests include promoting the sustainability of diversification within rural based businesses, GAA activities, having held various positions both at Club and County level including Vice-Chairperson of the Down Hurling Board. Whenever time permits enjoys a round of Golf at Kirkistown Castle Golf Club close by in Cloughey

Educated St. Colman’s College Newry & St. Macnissi’s College - Garron Tower, he has been in business for 37 years and is married to Sinead, has three children and lives in Portaferry.
