Slieve Gullion

Pete has served as a Councillor since January 2016 when he was co-opted to replace Geraldine Donnelly for the Slieve Gullion DEA. He is currently in his second term as a Slieve Gullion Councillor having been re-elected in May 2019.

He contested the Westminster Election in December 2019 as the party's candidate for Newry & Armagh.

Pete is currently the SDLP Spokesperson for All island rail.

Pete and his husband reside in Crossmaglen where he runs his fourth generation family business 'Byrne Monumentals'. As a graduate of Mathematics, he is also a highly recommended private maths tutor. Pete has a strong community background and volunteers on many local groups in South Armagh.

As an avid football fan, he spent seven years as coach of his local soccer club while also working closely with the youth of the area through his local youth club. He is passionate about LGBT rights and equality and continues to be a strong voice on local council for his rural community of South Armagh.
