Armagh

 

Thomas is SDLP Group Leader on Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.  He is a Councillor for the Armagh DEA, was first elected to Armagh City and District Council in 2005 and has been returned at each subsequent election.

He served as Mayor of Armagh in 2009/2010 having previously served as Deputy Mayor in 2006/2007. He is currently the SDLP Spokesperson for Cross-border business.

Thomas is a member of the Council’s Economic Development and Regeneration Committee, Governance Policy and Resources Committee.  He represents Council on the Mid South West City Deal Steering Group and East Border Region.  He sits on a number of groups within Council including the Armagh Leisure Village Project Board.  Thomas has a keen interest in Planning and Rural Development issues. 

Outside of Council Thomas is Non Executive Director and Chairman of the Appleby Trust.  The Appleby Trust is a Social Economy Project supporting adults with learning disabilities throughout Armagh, Banbridge and Lurgan.  The company operates printing businesses, a coffee shop and a supported employment scheme.

Thomas is married to Andrea and they have two daughters Annie and Lucy and they enjoy walking, visiting parks and spending time in County Mayo.
