SDLP Group Leader on Belfast City Council Councillor Séamas de Faoite has welcomed the conviction of a man found guilty of planting crude pipe bomb devices and attempting to intimidate members of East Belfast GAA Club.

Councillor Séamas de Faoite said:

“I welcome today’s conviction and hope this will be an opportunity for the East Belfast GAA community, and all those who use Henry Jones Playing Fields, to consign the concerted campaign of violence and intimidation to the past.

“I have worked proactively with East Belfast GAA to help secure additional security measures and investment at Henry Jones over the years, recognising the commitment the club have shown to that space.

“East Belfast GAA continues to play an important role in building community strength and resilience, working with all of the sporting codes to make this part of the city better. I look forward to continuing to support them.”
