Colum Eastwood MP has condemned a reported attack on police officers in Derry in the early hours of Thursday morning as they performed their duties.
Colum Eastwood MP said:
“This was a vicious attack on police officers in the early hours of Thursday morning that could have had horrific consequences. One officer was left in hospital after being stabbed in the leg and I understand that protective equipment prevented more serious wounds.
“Police officers and other emergency service personnel understand that they will face difficult and dangerous circumstances but no one should have to worry about being stabbed in the discharge of their duties. The level of assaults on emergency service staff is unacceptable and it should be taken seriously by Ministers.
“I wish the officers involved a quick recovery and return to their important work keeping our communities safe.”
