Colum Eastwood MP has urged Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to publish government files related to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s time as a UK Trade Envoy.
Mr Eastwood argued that there is a strong public interest in the early disclosure of the files, which are due to be sealed until 2065, in light of material contained in documents published by the US Department of Justice related to convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Colum Eastwood MP said:
“Given all we now know about the links between convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and senior figures in the British establishment, there is a strong public interest in the disclosure of all government-held documents related to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s time as a UK Trade Envoy.
“The latest publication of files related to Epstein by the US Department of Justice makes similar transparent disclosures by the British Government even more important. The files related to Mountbatten Windsor’s time as a Trade Envoy are not due to be released until 2065. That is completely unacceptable and I have tabled a question to the British Foreign Secretary asking if she will give consideration to the early publication of the files.
“Vulnerable women and girls have been badly let down by those in power. It is time for maximum transparency and disclosure in the interests of victims and survivors.”
