Colum Eastwood MP has welcomed confirmation that £1.266m has been secured for the development of a new multi-purpose Ballymagroarty-Hazelbank community centre.
The award is part of the £20m Pride in Place funding that Mr Eastwood secured from the British Government.
Colum Eastwood MP said:
“This is great news for Ballymagroarty, Hazelbank and the wider community. I am really proud that we’ve been able to support the many volunteers, activists and community workers who have had such a strong vision for facilities in this area for more than a decade. Their commitment to this community combined with the Pride in Place funding that I was able to secure from Westminster has made this long running dream a reality.
“This shows the value of committed community activists, politicians working together across party lines and using Derry’s voice at Westminster to demand better for our city. I have no doubt that this project will have a huge impact on how local people use and feel about the area. It will benefit young people, families and groups who have been crying out for investment in facilities like this for years.
“I look forward to seeing the project develop and to using Pride in Place funding to bring benefits to communities across the city.”
