SDLP Foyle MP Colum Eastwood has welcomed National Lottery funding to bring St Columb’s Hall into trust ownership.
The St Columb’s Hall Trust has announced plans to substantially redevelop the building.
Foyle MP Colum Eastwood said:
“St Columb’s Hall is a landmark building right in the centre of our city. It has played host to a wide range of artistic and cultural events and been the centrepiece for some of Derry’s most historic moments. These plans have been in the works for some time and it’s great to see funding secured to bring the building into trust ownership so that redevelopment work can get underway.
“Restoration will allow the entire building to be brought back into public use, creating a modern venue and hub that can be used by a wide range of groups while retaining the building’s unique character and history.
“Following on from announcements around the old Danske Bank and Austins Department Store, this is the third significant development for our city centre in a matter of weeks. This work will add new vibrancy, create opportunities for our arts and cultural community and give the entire city a boost.
“I will continue working with the Trust and others to support this project and make sure Derry gets the investment it needs to realise the full potential of our city centre.”
