SDLP Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Group Leader Councillor Adam Gannon has questioned Sinn Féin’s commitment to delivering the A4 Enniskillen Southern Bypass.
It comes after a Sinn Féin amendment to an SDLP motion at council on Tuesday night.
It removed a firm commitment around reinstating £6.6m in funding for the next financial year, for work to begin in 2026 and for the project to be included in any Executive multi-year budget.
Councillor Adam Gannon said:
“The motion we brough to council this week highlighted concerns that people in this area have after funding for the A4 project was reallocated. While we understand the legal picture following the A5 ruling, this was an opportunity for every party on council to express our support for the Enniskillen Bypass and make that clear to the Executive.
“Unfortunately Sinn Féin significantly watered down our motion in an attempt to provide cover for their failing Executive Ministers at Stormont. I would ask them directly to make clear what part of the motion they did not support, was it the return of funding, work starting next year or the inclusion of this vital project in any multi-year budget.
“People in this area are fed up of being treated as second best by this Executive. Our roads are in a dreadful state, public services are being pushed to the limit and families are finding it more and more difficult to get by. The Enniskillen Bypass is key for the future prosperity of this area and the SDLP will keep fighting and holding Executive parties accountable until it’s delivered.”
