SDLP Leader Claire Hanna MP has challenged the Secretary of State to bring forward proposals to end the blockage on legacy cases.

Ms Hanna was speaking in the House of Commons during NI Questions on Wednesday.

She referenced the cases of Sean Brown and Alan Black and the Kingsmill Massacre.

South Belfast and Mid Down MP Claire Hanna said:

“Alan Black and the family of Sean Brown have been fighting for decades for answers and still they face significant obstacles. These were some of the most nakedly sectarian murders in our squalid conflict and still we see those who created victims, both in and out of uniform, driving the legacy process.

“If we are ever to reckon with our past and deliver the truth and justice victims deserve then we need to see the removal of the Northern Ireland Office’s veto of cases on the grounds of national security, root and branch reform of the ICRIR, a commitment to exposing collusive behaviour and a return to the principles agreed at Stormont House.

“We cannot continue to see the rights of victims and their families placed below state interests.”
