Mallon: Progress on Infrastructure Commission will be a game changer

SDLP Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon has recieved Executive backing for her plans to progress the first ever Infrastructure Commission for Northern Ireland.

Minister Mallon previously commissioned an expert advisory group to look at the plans.

On Thursday, she received confirmation that the Executive Office will be bring a paper to make progress on the project.

North Belfast MLA Ms Mallon said:

“I am delighted to receive assurances from the Joint First Ministers today that my proposal for an Infrastructure Commission is making progress in the Executive Office and that a paper will be coming to the Executive shortly for agreement.

“The SDLP and I have been pushing for a commission to be set up here to help plan strategically for the short, medium and long-term. In my role as Minister I have made this ambition a priority and I hope it will soon become a reality.

“The commission has support across the political spectrum, from our business community and beyond. It will be a real game changer for how business is done here, bringing in experts and strategically shaping and improving the delivery of critical infrastructure going forward.

“Our economy, community and climate needs this strategic, focused and inclusive drive. I’m committed to getting the job done.”
