SDLP West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan has condemned a security alert in the Culmore Park area of Omagh.

A number of homes have been evacuated.

West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan said:

“This is a disgraceful incident that has interrupted the lives of many people in this area at the end of the working week. A number of homes have been evacuated and there was widespread concern that a residential care home may be affected.

“While I welcome police confirmation that no further evacuations have been planned this must have been a very difficult situation for the residents and staff in this care home, faced with the possibility of moving older and vulnerable people at short notice with all the distress that would entail.

“The people behind this incident care nothing for those affected – but their actions are totally futile and have no support in this area. I would call on them to cease their senseless activities and for anyone with information to come forward to police.”
