SDLP West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan has urged the Executive Office to progress applications ahead of the deadline for the Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme.
The scheme is set to shut to new applications in August 2026.
Figures obtained by Mr McCrossan show as of October this year there had been 2,476 successful applications and 1,758 payment awards totalling nearly £113m.
The average backdated payment is £38,920.81, lump sum payment £45,756.01 and an average monthly payment of £393.52.
West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan said:
“While it’s welcome that we are seeing more and more victims starting to receive their payments, I am concerned that with the deadline looming next year that we are still seeing many people going through this application process, while other victims may have yet to start or realise the compensation they are entitled to.
“We have heard numerous reports of victims and their families struggling to navigate this process, facing months of delay and even being rejected altogether. This is no way to treat people who have been through some of the most harrowing experiences imaginable, many of them still carrying the pain and scars today.
“I would urge the Executive to ensure they renew public information efforts and do everything possible to speed up the application process ahead of the upcoming deadline. If they fail to do so then they must be consider extending this scheme, nobody should miss out on this vital support due to political failure.”
