SDLP West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan has welcomed Irish Government legislation to co-operate with the Omagh Bombing Inquiry.
Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan has announced Government support for legislation that would allow evidence to be given through courts in the South.
West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan said:
“This is an important step that will allow evidence to be given under oath before the courts and shared with the Omagh Inquiry. The families of victims have been clear that the Irish Government must cooperate fully with this process and this legislation moves us in that direction.
“The Omagh families have already waited far too long for truth and justice. This process must now be prioritised and progressed at pace. There can be no further dither or delay.
“Ultimately, it will be for the Omagh families to judge whether this move goes far enough. The SDLP has stood resolutely with them in their call for a separate public inquiry in the South.
“The Irish Government must now engage meaningfully with the families and ensure that any steps taken have their full confidence and support.”
