SDLP Opposition Health Spokesperson Colin McGrath MLA has said that the Health Minister’s latest Reset Plan may look good on paper but action is required to address the issues within the health service.
Mr McGrath said a plan would not allay the fears and concerns of those in dire need of healthcare.
South Down MLA Mr McGrath said:
“The Health Minister’s latest ‘Reset Plan’ sounds good on paper, but what people really want is action on the ground. We’ve had plans before, and even the Minister has said in the past that what he would prefer to see is a funded implementation plan. This just does not cut it.
“What we need now is direct action that will lead to shorter waiting lists, fair pay for staff, and sustained investment in our community services. You can’t reform healthcare by slashing budgets and floating charges for prescriptions or home care without public consultation.
“While this plan has some big ambitions, it has very few details on how they’ll actually be delivered. Patients and staff have waited long enough, they deserve more than warm words and promises.
“The Minister says in his statement that this is a ‘defining year’ for our health service. I say this is a defining year for our Executive. If they can’t make good on these plans and promises, then their legacy will be one of dither, delay, missed opportunities and letting the public down.”
