SDLP councillor Karen McKevitt has welcomed progress on the Narrow Water Bridge project.

SDLP Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon announced on Saturday that she has made the Bridge Orders to progress the project to procurement phase.

The decision will allow Louth County Council to proceed to the next stage.

Councillor McKevitt said:

“This announcement from SDLP Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon will be warmly welcomed on both sides of the border as we see the long-awaited Narrow Water Bridge project move to its next phase. This bridge has been in the works for some time, and since becoming Minister Nichola Mallon has driven it forward and made huge progress.

“Narrow Water Bridge will transform life for people living in this border area. It will result in much improved connectivity for everyone who travels through here and provide increased economic opportunities by boosting our tourism offering and creating new areas for businesses to explore and expand.

“I’d like to thank SDLP Minister Mallon and the Irish Government for the work they have done to progress Narrow Water Bridge. Once again, Minister Mallon has shown what can be achieved when we work together to deliver the projects that communities want. She has demonstrated that by striving to improve the lives of our communities and putting people first we can make a real difference for people right across our island.”
