SDLP Faughan Councillor Declan Norris has welcomed progress on the long-awaited replacement of Muff Glen Bridge.
A planning application has now been lodged by DAERA to replace the bridge destroyed in severe flooding in August 2017.
Councillor Declan Norris said:
“It is very welcome to see concrete progress on Muff Glen Bridge at long last. Since the catastrophic flooding in 2017, the absence of a bridge has created serious safety concerns for local residents and visitors. People, including pensioners and children, have been forced to walk along a 60mph road simply to access their cars, placing them at unnecessary risk.
“I have been working closely with the local community and the Forest Service for several years to press the case for a replacement bridge. While it has taken far too long to reach this stage, the submission of this planning application is a significant step towards finally delivering a new bridge.
“I am now urging the DAERA Minister to ensure that the necessary funding is identified without delay. This project is about community safety and accessibility and I will continue working with my SDLP colleagues to see it completed as quickly as possible.”
