Pat Catney is the SDLP Assembly candidate for Lagan Valley, having served as an MLA from 2017. 

A former publican, Pat has a lifetime's experience working in the hospitality sector and managing a number of small businesses. He is passionate about hospitality and reforming Northern Ireland's outdated licensing laws that are stifling our night-time economy, driving more young people away from home.

As the SDLP Spokesperson for Hospitality and High Street Renewal, Pat has been focused on helping retailers, hospitality businesses and others begin to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Pat is also a keen singer and performs with local choirs, particularly during the festive season. 

In the last Assembly mandate Pat secured new legislation to end the injustice of period poverty in Northern Ireland by making period products available in all public buildings.
