Following the retirement of the previous school crossing patrol staff at Church View, Holywood in September, a replacement has yet to be recruited.
The Education Authority have currently frozen the recruitment of school crossing patrol staff due to budgetary pressures.
As a result three schools in the Church View area have no school crossing patrol staff in place, with significant concern in the community given the large amount of traffic in the area everyday.
We believe that in order to keep people safe and maintain order in the area that we need to see new crossing patrol staff recruited at the first opportunity.
SDLP North Down representative DĂ©irdre Vaughan is calling on the Education Authority to reverse this recruitment freeze so that schools can hire much needed staff.
