Claire Hanna MP has paid tribute to Pope Francis following his death at the age of 88.

Claire Hanna MP said:

"Pope Francis’s passing will be mourned not only by those of the Catholic faith, but by people across the world. He was a leader of humanity and authenticity, deeply attuned to the real lives of those he served. Throughout his ministry, he championed the poor and marginalised, including refugees.

“Significantly, in his final public address, he called for peace in Gaza and urged a ceasefire — a testament to his enduring commitment to justice and compassion.

"He led on behalf of future generations too, through his focus on environmental leadership and what he called ‘care for our common home’.

"His example reminded political and faith leaders alike that true leadership is found in humility, service, and speaking up for the voiceless."

"It is poignant that he lived to see and celebrate Easter Sunday and the resurrection at the core of the Christian faith.”

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal agus go mbeidh Proinsias i bhFlaithis."
