Domestic Violence Shelter for Upper Bann

The Upper Bann area has the second highest rate of recorded domestic violence incidents in Northern Ireland, yet it lacks a dedicated domestic violence shelter for women and children who are forced to flee their homes. Over the last few years there have been drastic increases in reports to the PSNI of domestic abuse. Dolores Kelly MLA has been working with Women's Aid and the PSNI to support domestic violence victims in the area by securing premises for a shelter in the area. This plan needs the financial support of the Communities Minister to make it happen.

We the undersigned call on the Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey to urgently allocate resource to create a domestic violence shelter for the Upper Bann area, to support women and children who are fleeing their own homes.
