We the undersigned call on Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to guarantee the delivery of a fully inclusive Tourism Strategy, with a distinct brand identity for South Armagh, and which reflects the fact that we are the only District in the North with three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Slieve Gullion, the Mournes and Strangford/Lecale. In addition, we call on Council to publish plans to provide a substantial and sustainable increase in tourist footfall across the entirety of our District on a local, cross-border, and international basis. We further call for the inclusion of Counties Armagh and Down in the Ireland’s Ancient East destination marketing brand.
South Armagh Tourism
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is in the process of developing a new tourism strategy. The SDLP has tabled proposals with the Council to ensure that South Armagh’s iconic cultural, heritage and tourism offering are included and reflected in the Council’s Tourism Strategy. In addition to an inclusive Tourism Strategy, the SDLP are campaigning for Counties Armagh and Down to be included in the Ireland’s Ancient East destination marketing brand.
