Northern Ireland is facing an environmental crisis. From pollution in Lough Neagh to declining biodiversity, deteriorating air and water quality, decades of underinvestment, poor governance and political short-termism have taken a devastating toll on the natural world as well as our economy, public health and food security.
The SDLP is setting out a new roadmap for environmental recovery, reversing decades of environmental decline through legislative action, increased investment and long-term planning.
Our plans view economic success and environmental recovery as two sides of the same coin. One cannot be sustained without the other. These proposals offer a viable pathway to environmental recovery, delivering for our environment while underpinning more sustainable and resilient economic growth.
