SDLP Newry Councillor, Doire Finn, has welcomed the establishment of a new Arts Working Group in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.

The proposal received backing from parties across the chamber. For the first time in many years, the council will now have a dedicated forum focused on supporting and strengthening the thriving arts scene in communities right across the district.

Cllr Doire Finn said:

"I am delighted that councillors from across the chamber have supported this proposal to establish a dedicated Arts Working Group.

"The SDLP is determined to make Newry, Mourne and Down a place where creativity is valued and nurtured.

"Our party has always championed the power of the arts to bring people together, strengthen communities, and drive local economic growth.

"This working group will give artists, cultural groups and local organisations a stronger voice in shaping council policy, ensuring that their contribution to our district's identity and community life is recognised and supported."
